Legal marriage via the municipality
On your most beautiful day, you would like to choose your own marriage registrar.
BABS stands for extraordinary civil registrar. You pay costs to the municipality to perform the legal marriage. The marriage is often performed at the town hall of the municipality or a wedding location approved by the municipality. The costs you pay to the municipality are called fees and can be found on the municipality’s website. Many bridal couples now choose their own marriage registrar to tailor their ceremony entirely to their own wishes.
That’s where I come in. I am an independent marriage registrar and ceremony speaker and I work from my heart. With passion, I like to tailor your ceremony to your wishes.
I also work as a marriage registrar for the municipality of Nijkerk. This means that I have a national swearing-in as a registrar and can therefore perform marriages at any designated / official wedding location in the Netherlands. I also like to perform ceremonial marriages abroad.
Legal marriage in combination with your love ceremony
If you want to celebrate love in a setting entirely of your choice, you can ask me to think along with you about a beautiful, personal and unique ceremony at a location of your choice. To save costs, you can also choose to simply enter into the legal marriage on the free day of the municipality so that all options are open for your ceremony at home or abroad.
A ceremony of love alone without a legal marriage is also possible, or a renewal of the vows if you have been married for 25 years or whenever you feel like it, nothing is too crazy! What matters is that we look together at how we can make your most beautiful day into a personal and unique event that will be talked about for a long time to come. Do you want to know more? Step 1
I would like to make an appointment with you for the first click conversation. We usually do this via a video call. We get to know each other and we can decide whether there is a click. Also, I can give you tips and advice during this conversation and think along with you. This first click conversation is always free of charge and without obligation.
Step 2
If it clicks I will send you a detailed quote and an explanation of the next steps. If you agree with the quote and make a deposit, the date can then be reserved exclusively for you.
Step 3
I usually create a wedding app group in Whatsapp so we can share information easily with each other in the run-up to the wedding. The better I get to know you and you get to know me, the more personally you will experience the ceremony! Of course, I will visit you at home about 3 to 4 weeks before the wedding or we will see each other at your wedding location to extensively review your love story in a personal conversation. Based on that conversation, I will summarize your story in words and will frame it with lightness, humor and depth.
FAQ
Can you get married at any location, including my own backyard?
Do you want to say ‘I do’ at an unofficial wedding location? Then you can ask the municipality to designate your wedding location as a ‘House of the Municipality’ for one day. If the municipality agrees, then choosing a BABS or an independent marriage officiant is possible.
How does it work if we want to get married abroad?
Do you want a legal marriage but would you prefer a ceremony abroad? That is one of the possibilities. You then first get lawfully married in the Netherlands, often people then choose the free of charge marriage of the municipality. All your wishes for a beautiful ceremony abroad that is not inferior to the legal YES word, you can then discuss with your own independent marriage officiant.
What costs do I pay for an independent marriage officiant?
In addition to the rate for the independent marriage officiant, you will always pay the municipal fees for the legal marriage, unless you opt for the free of charge marriage. You can find these costs on the website of your wedding municipality. The rate for an independent wedding officiant is usually higher, as they invest much more time in your wedding ceremony. You then really opt for a unique and personal ceremony tailored to your needs.
Does a registrar or independent marriage officiant always wear a robe?
For a municipal wedding at the city hall, often yes. For weddings on location and with an independent marriage officiant, the choice is entirely yours!
What is the real added value of an independent marriage officiant?
Working as a registrar for the municipality is more of an honorary position, so the time and energy invested in your wedding is limited and special requests often cannot be fulfilled. There is a great diversity of marriage officiants, but there is a lid for every pot, because the click between the bride and groom and the marriage officiant is, just like in a wedding, the most important thing. You can expect more from an independent marriage officiant when it comes to time, energy, depth and a unique, tailor-made ceremony.
